Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated:
This Privacy Policy covers Dot by Dot: Pixel Art (called “Dot by Dot” in the app) for iOS and Android, and the website at dotbydot.app. Kaya Altın is the developer and is responsible for the personal information described here. “We” and “our” refer to the developer.
At a glance
Drawing, animation, templates, project storage, and exports run on your device. The app has no accounts, advertisements, analytics, tracking, or developer-operated cloud storage. We do not automatically receive your artwork, usage history, device identifiers, or purchase receipts. Optional store purchases, messages you choose to send us, and website connections are explained below.
Artwork and data on your device
The app accesses and processes your drawings, layers, animation frames, palettes, project names, settings, and local recovery files only to provide editing, saving, recovery, and export features. These files stay in the app’s local storage unless you choose to export or share them. We cannot view or recover them remotely.
Import and export use the operating system’s file picker and sharing controls. The app accesses the files you select; it does not request broad access to your photo library, camera, microphone, contacts, or location. When you export or share a file, the destination you select receives that file and handles it under its own privacy practices. We do not receive a copy.
Your operating system may include app data in device backups or device transfers, depending on your settings. These services are controlled by you and your operating system provider; they are not a Dot by Dot cloud service.
Optional Pro purchases
When available, Lifetime Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Their services process store account and payment information under their own policies. We do not receive your payment card details, billing address, or store account password.
The app uses the store’s purchase services to query products, complete transactions, check ownership, and restore Pro. It processes purchase information such as product and transaction identifiers, purchase status, and signed purchase evidence for these purposes. Android stores signed purchase evidence locally so verified Pro access can be recognized offline. Purchase evidence is not sent to a developer-operated server or used for advertising or analytics. Store services may connect to Apple or Google when checking purchases, including when the app starts or resumes.
Read the Apple Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy for information about their processing, retention, and privacy controls.
Support and privacy messages
If you email us, we receive your email address, the contents of your message, and any attachments or diagnostic information you choose to include. We use this information to answer your request, investigate the issue you report, and meet applicable legal obligations. Our email provider, Microsoft, processes the correspondence to deliver and store email; see the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Sending us artwork or diagnostics is optional.
We do not use support messages for marketing, sell personal information, or share it for targeted advertising. We may disclose correspondence when legally required or when necessary to protect legal rights. Any service provider processing personal information on our behalf must use it only for the purposes described here and provide the same or greater protection as this policy and applicable law require.
Website and interactive preview
The website does not add analytics, advertising trackers, or marketing cookies. Fonts and artwork are served with the website. Changes in the interactive browser preview are held in the current page’s memory and are not uploaded. Reloading or closing the page clears these changes; a PNG you choose to download remains wherever you save it.
Cloudflare hosts and delivers the website. To serve pages and protect the service, Cloudflare may process technical connection information such as your IP address, requested URL, request time, browser or device information, and security events. Its security services may use necessary cookies or similar mechanisms. This website processing is separate from the offline app; opening a policy link in a browser creates a website connection. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy for its processing, retention, and international data handling.
Retention and deletion
- Local projects: Files remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app’s data. Deleting a project also removes its associated local recovery files once the undo opportunity ends. Small local deletion records may remain to prevent old saves from recreating deleted projects. Unreadable files may be preserved locally for recovery.
- All local app data: Use your operating system’s controls to delete the app and its data, or clear app storage where supported. Offloading an app may preserve its data. Export anything you want to keep first; we cannot restore deleted files.
- Exported files and backups: Delete these separately from the destinations or device backup services where you saved them. Removing a project or uninstalling the app does not delete external copies.
- Purchase records: Local purchase evidence remains until replaced, removed after an ownership refresh, or cleared with the app’s data. Apple and Google retain their own transaction records under their policies and legal obligations. Removing app data does not cancel a purchase or request a refund.
- Correspondence: We retain support and privacy messages only as long as needed to handle the request and any related legal obligations or disputes, then delete them. You can request deletion using the contact below. Any legally required retention will be explained in our response.
- Website information: Technical and security information is retained according to Cloudflare’s applicable service policies; it is not an archive of your drawings.
There is no Dot by Dot account to delete and no developer-held collection of your local artwork. You can stop optional sharing by not exporting files or sending support messages; there is no analytics or advertising consent to withdraw in the app.
Security and international processing
Local files rely on your device’s application storage protections and your device security settings. Website connections use HTTPS, and purchase transactions use the platform’s store services. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure. Keep your device protected and maintain your own exported backups.
Website hosting, email, and store providers may process information outside your country under their privacy policies and applicable transfer safeguards. The app does not upload your projects to those providers automatically.
Children and families
Dot by Dot can be used by people of all ages, including children. The app does not require a child’s name, email address, date of birth, or an account, and does not include ads, tracking, public profiles, or in-app messaging. The same local processing protections apply to every user. A parent or guardian should manage purchases and any sharing outside the app using the device and store controls.
Children should ask a parent or guardian to contact support rather than sending personal information themselves. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.
Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to processing of, or obtain a copy of personal information we hold, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Contact us to exercise these rights; a parent or guardian may contact us for a child. We may request only the information needed to verify and handle the request. We cannot access local app files on your behalf or delete records independently controlled by Apple, Google, or a destination you choose.
Where applicable, we process support information to respond to your request and provide support, website connection information for our legitimate interest in delivering and securing the site, and information needed to comply with legal obligations. Where processing requires consent, you may withdraw that consent by contacting us without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page and its effective date when our practices change. Material changes will be communicated through the website or the app as appropriate, and we will obtain consent before new processing where required. Our store privacy disclosures must reflect the app version being distributed.
